Obituary

Ishpeming – Lois Lee Watters, age 76, of 711 E. Ridge St. Ishpeming, passed away on Thursday December 6, 2007 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee where she had resided since August 20, 2004.


Lois was born May 25, 1931 to the late Ludvig and Olga (Langaas) Lee in the family home at 711 E. Ridge St. where she was raised and lived her life. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1949. Lois had worked at the Bell Telephone Co. for a brief time following high school. Lois then attended Northern Michigan University, graduating with a teaching degree in Home Economics in 1956. Lois married the late Robert L. (Bob) Watters on June 15, 1957 in the Trinity Lutheran Church. Lois taught Home Economics for a year in Stephenson and then locally in Champion and Ishpeming, along with some local adult education classes with the Ishpeming-Negaunee-NICE Community Schools. She and her husband had wintered in Florida for several years in their retirement.


Lois was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church being involved with the Women's circle, the Soup luncheons and the Quilters group. She enjoyed time spent with the Ladies Club which included friends from her high school years. She gave of her time and talents, knitting many hats and mittens for those in need. Lois was an avid reader and was a member of the VFW auxiliary, the Vasa Lodge (Scandinavian organization). Lois enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at camp on the Dead River.


Survivors include two sons – Jon (Patricia) Watters of Vienna, VA and Paul (Carolyn) Watters of Harvey; a daughter Lynn (Bill) Haukkala of Ishpeming; grandchildren – Abbie Watters, Lindsay and Billy Haukkala, Melissa and Shea Heribacka, Ashley Ahtonen along with a beloved niece Marilyn (Norman) Andrew. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Watters in 2004, a sister Clara Swanson; and two brothers – Alfred and Melvin Lee.


The family will greet friends and relatives from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Tuesday December 11, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, where funeral services will
be held at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Kenneth Lahners officiating. Inurment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.


Pallbearers will be Paul and Jon Watters, Bill and Billy Haukkala, Norman Andrew, & Norman and Peter Johnson.
