Ishpeming – Lois M. Ryan, age 89, former of 119 Bessemer St., Ishpeming passed away on Tuesday June 1, 2010 at the Mather Nursing Center where she had resided since Nov. of 2009.

Lois was born May 15, 1921 in Frankfort, IN the daughter of the late Grover and Dale (Gray) Maish. Lois grew up in Indiana, graduating from Frankfort High School in Indiana and attending college in Indianapolis. She married William T. Ryan on Feb. 20, 1942 in Indiana. In 1956 Lois moved to the Upper Peninsula, at which time she and her late husband William purchased the Forest Glenn Resort, which is located 10 miles south of Wetmore in the Hiawatha National Forest. They ran the resort business until retirement in 1988. In 2001 they moved to Ishpeming to be closer to family members. Lois thoroughly enjoyed nature, including gardening, and watching wildlife, especially birds.

Survivors include two sons – W. Mike (Linda) Ryan of Gaylord and Thomas (Sue) Ryan of Ishpeming, four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William T. Ryan in 2006, her parents, a sister Dorothy Sites and a brother Joe Maish.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am-12:00 noon on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming where funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday with the Rev. Warren Geier to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
