Ishpeming – Lois A. Arseneault, age 73, longtime Ishpeming Twp. resident passed away on Tuesday October 20, 2009 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where she had resided since January of 2006.


Lois was born May 1, 1936 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Niemi) DeCaire. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School class of 1954 and received a Master of Arts Degree from Northern Michigan University. Lois taught English at the Champion High School, and then became Media Director at the Westwood High School in the NICE school district.

Lois was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved to watch the Detroit Tigers and the Green Bay Packers, along with time spent traveling, reading and playing cards.


Survivors include a son John (Heidi) Heikkila of Ishpeming, step-son Steve (Kathy Jo Lampi) Arseneault, a step-daughter Patrice (C. Patrick Kennedy) Arseneault of Edina, MN, 2 sisters – Barbara Ducas and Nancy DeCaire both of Ishpeming, 4 grandchildren – Stephanie and Natalie Heikkila, Alannah Arseneault and Alex Kennedy, a nephew Alan (Theresa) Harris of Ishpeming along with several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband George Heikkila and her second husband Peter Arseneault.

The family will greet family and friends from 10:00am until 11:00am on Thursday October 22, 2009 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with the Rev. Fr. James Challancin to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph Memorial Fund in Lois's memory.
