Republic - Linda S. Swanson, age 97 of 216 Hemlock St. Republic passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at her home while in the loving care of her family and UP Home Health & Hospice. Linda was born June 13, 1916 in Republic the daughter of the late Matt and Anna (Alanen) Lyyski. She attended the Republic School and later worked as a cook for several years at the Republic School and volunteered her time for the Republic Community Services. Linda was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and the V.F. W. Auxiliary of Republic. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren as they grew up, along with knitting, cooking and baking her homemade delights. Linda also enjoyed making paintings for her family, blueberry picking and playing cards. Survivors include her six children – Barbara Augston of Republic, Elaine Maki of Ishpeming, David (Delphine) Warlin, Wallace (Dorothy) Warlin of Republic, Terry (Teri) Martti of Green Bay, WI, and Priscilla Martti of Republic; a daughter-in-law Arlene Warlin of Republic, 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren along with numerous great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband Toivo Warlin, second husband Elmer Martti and third husband Alfred Swanson, a son Robert Warlin, grandson Alan Warlin, brothers – Lawrence, Leo, Leonard, Arvo and Eino Lyyski and sisters Laura Mattson, Vieno Mattson and Saimi Linna, sons in law Larry Augston and Werner Maki. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00-3:00pm Saturday, December 14th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm on Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kevin Kaiser to officiate. Interment will take place in the spring at the Republic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Linda's grandsons. Memorial considerations may be directed to UP Home Health & Hospice in memory of Linda.
