Rhinelander, WI- Linda Jo Stanaway age 67 of Rhinelander, Wisconsin formerly of Ishpeming entered eternal life on Dec 26, 2014 surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Linda was born on October 18, 1947 the daughter of Marion Isabelle Whalen & Emment Crosby.
In her earlier years she was employed by Rollies restaurant & later as an aide at MCMCF. Linda loved being a part of her community as a past president of the Negaunee Eagles club and a lifelong member of the Negaunee VFW Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her husband Kenneth Stanaway at Sands Speedway and being his #1 fan & paling around with her best friend Sharon Melka. Thick as thieves they were. Fond memories of Linda include her taking her grandchildren to the beach and out for ice cream followed by drives through Cornish town on summer afternoons. She also enjoyed walking down to the band shelter in Negaunee with her grandsons on Wednesday nights to hear music. After Linda moved to Wisconsin in 2008 and her daughter Mona moved back to the states she enjoyed glamping out at camp in Crandon with Mona & her companion Al Sache and her best friend Goldie.
Linda is survived by her 2 sons Jimmer (Angel) Cox, Billy Cox of Ishpeming, her siblings Wayne (Bethel) Whalen of Newberry, Richard ( Linda) Hammerberg of Crystal falls, Jackie Almy (James) King of Gwinn, James Ericson of Rhinelander & several grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren as well as her companion Al Sache and special friend Sharon Melka.
She was preceded in death by her late husband Kenneth Stanaway, daughter Mona (Reynard) Gordon, 2 brothers Walter Whalen & Al Whalen, a sister Virginia Bertini, a granddaughter Lorissa Cox and special people James Cox, Buzzy Rice, Rosie Runion.
Join family and friends for a Celebration of Linda's Life. A Memorial Luncheon will be held on Sunday June 14, 2015 from 2-5p.m at the Negaunee VFW. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery at a later date.
