Marquette – Lillian M. Norkoli, age 96, of 425 Fisher St in Marquette passed away on Friday June 22, 2007 at the D. J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans. Lillian was a long time resident of Ishpeming.
Lillian was born January 12, 1911 in Rock, MI to the late Alexander and Alma Makela. In her youth, Lillian moved to Ishpeming where she lived for many years. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1929.
Lillian was a care-giver for her husband for 16 years, along with her grandparents, other family members and other area families. She loved writing and had a strong Christian faith. Lillian was very proud of her grandchildren and was a member of the Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary.
Lillian is survived by her son Bill (Connie) Norkoli of Aurora, CO, a good friend Leonard St. Onge of Marquette, grandchildren: Ann (Steve) Lujan of Aurora, CO, Sara Norkoli of Colorado Springs, CO, Drew Norkoli of Colorado Springs, CO, great grandchildren: Tanner and Will Lujan of Aurora, CO, nephews: Jim Makela, Butch Norkoli, Don Karvonen, and nieces: Carol Makela and Arlene Lee. Lillian was preceded in death her husband John in 1988, 2 brothers – Oiva and Ahti Makela, and a sister Elsa Beilharz.
Funeral Services will be held on at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Tom Wickstrom officiating.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Tuesday at the Bethel Lutheran Church from 9:30a.m. until the time of service at 11:00.
