Ishpeming – Leonard N. Olgren, age 84 of 285 Gold St., Ishpeming passed away at 9:37am on Saturday June 2, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of the Lake Superior Hospice.
Leonard was born July 1, 1922 at Black River, Township of Humboldt, Michigan, to Nels Olgren and the former Alina Hintsala. He was a lifelong resident of the Ishpeming area and graduated in 1941 from the Ishpeming High School. He was a World War II Air Forces Veteran and later employed by the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church of Negaunee.
Surviving are five daughters – Nancy (Miles) Mattson of Marquette, Wanda (Gary) Dolkey of Ishpeming, Deanna (Steven) Nurmela of Champion, Anita (Edward) Sandberg of Ishpeming, and Lisa Olgren of Rochester, MN; 2 brothers – Theodore Olgren of Ishpeming and Martin Olgren of Negaunee Twp.; 2 sisters – Dorothea (Robert) Worgull of Camp Verde, AZ and Judith Heslip of Green Bay, WI; 12 grandchildren – Craig (Chanda) Mattson, Jeffrey Mattson, Anita Mattson and her husband Brad Ray, Bradley Mattson, Yvonne (John) Nelson, Kristen (Tony) Mariuzza, Erica Nurmela and her husband Amit Sahrawat, Brian Nurmela, Zachary Sandberg, Lindsey Sandberg, Cassy Sandberg and Derek Olgren; 8 great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of brothers and sisters in faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elaine Hendrickson, a brother August Olgren, and two sisters – Edna Piziali and Aili Kangas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday June 5, 2007 at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church on Co. Rd. 492 in Negaunee Twp. with Ralph Williams officiating. Interment will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Tuesday at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers will be his grandson's.
