Ishpeming Twp. – Leona V. Rochon, age 89, of 235 Stoneville Rd. passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at her home while in the loving care of her family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Leona was born April 22, 1922 in Perkins, MI the daughter of the late Alfred and Mabel (Arvey) Krouth, and grew up on the family farm. She moved to Palmer in the early 1950's where she raised her family and worked at the Palmer Nursing Home for 19 years. Leona finished her schooling by graduating from the Community Schools Program in 1975. Leona was a much loved caregiver to the families she served while employed at the Marquette Co. Health Dept. for 11 years. Leona moved to Ishpeming in 1977 and married Leon Rochon on January 25, 1991.
Leona was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed TV programs such as The Young & the Restless, Wheel of Fortune & the Match Game.
Survivors include her husband Leon Rochon of Ishpeming, 6 children – Carol (Al) Bridegroom of Schererville, IN, Roberta (Lowell) Cardew of Ishpeming, Robert (Chris) LaFave of Palmer, Clifford (Christine) LaFave of Chocolay Twp., Dale LaFave of Ishpeming, and Leona (Jim) Connors of Ishpeming, step-children – Leon (Sue) Rochon Jr. of Grand Junction, CO, Sara (Kevin) Smith, Bonnie Howe and Donna (Dale) Aho all of Clarksburg Loc., 2 sisters – Joyce Bailey of Cedar Springs, MI and Elizabeth Bailey of Gwinn, 2 brothers – Alfred (Ruth) Krouth of Rochester, NY and Richard (Mary) Krouth of Perkins, 20 grandchildren along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 – 11:00am on Monday November 28, 2011 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. James Challancin to officiate. Entombment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Memorial Fund in Leona's memory.
