Ishpeming- Leona Elaine Peterson, age 94, longtime Ishpeming Township resident passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Leona was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on March 6, 1926, a daughter of the late Waino and Leona (Beckerleg) Millimaki.  Elaine graduated from National Mine High School and was an avid fan of Ishpeming and Westwood High School's athletics.

After high school, Elaine worked briefly in Washington D.C., before moving back to Ishpeming where she worked for the H.W. Gossard Company, and Mather Nursing Center.

Elaine enjoyed time spent with her family at camp on the Dead River Basin.  She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.

Elaine is  survived by a son Bill (Trude) Peterson of Ishpeming, grandchildren: Tiffany (Mike) Mason, and Anna (Chris) Nelson, great grandchildren: Aidan, and Callan Mason, and Cohen Nelson, brother in law Donald Trudell of Negaunee, sister in law LaVerne Ellersick of Milwaukee, WI, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special friend Sandy Arsenault.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Peterson, a sister Betty Ellis, a brother Wayne "Dudley" Millimaki, brothers in law Vernon Trudell, Louis (Carol) Trudell and Richard Ellersick.

A Private graveside service for Elaine will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
