Ishpeming, MI - Leona P. "Noni" Luke, age 99, longtime Michigamme and Ishpeming resident passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she had resided the past 2½ years.

Leona was born in Humboldt Twp. on July 28, 1923, a daughter of the late Jennie S. (Kulju) and Fred J. Papin. She grew up in Michigamme and was a graduate of the Michigamme High School, Class of 1941. Leona worked at the Mather Inn in Ishpeming for several years. Noni as she was affectionately known, was a homemaker and wonderful mother and grandmother, always putting her family first.  She truly loved the Michigamme Community and resided there until the mid 1980's.  Leona then moved into the Pioneer Bluff Apartments, "The High Rise" in Ishpeming, where she lived independently for the next 32 years. She was a member of The Bethel Lutheran Church.

Noni will be remembered for her love of sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Michigan State Spartan's Basketball Team. She enjoyed Bowling in her younger years, but most of all she enjoyed attending her Grandchildren's Sports and Activities.  Leona was fortunate to travel with her daughter Sandy to England and Scottland. She also liked helping her with her Bed and Breakfast in the summer months on Lake Michigamme in the 1990's. She loved people and will be remembered by many.

Leona is  survived by a son, Randy (Marge) Luke, a daughter, Sandra Marketty (Larry LaFreniere), 5 Grandchildren, Michael (Patty) Luke, Glenn (Beth) Luke, Wade (Amy) Marchetti, Craig Marketty (Jeff Polaski), Ann Wingate, great grandchildren - Isabel, Ella, Liam, Vanessa and Olivia Luke, Alyssa (Dane) Perlick, Dominic, Anthony and Victoria Marchetti, Spencer and Avani Wingate, a great great grandson whom she cherished holding, Dorin Perlick, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Elaine Papin, son-in-law Bernard Marketty, grandson Todd Luke and great granddaughter Hope Wingate.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 12:00 – 1:00PM on Saturday, August 19, 2023, where a Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 with Rev. Tim Johnston officiating. Interment will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Michigamme. A luncheon will follow the services at the Bethel Lutheran Church.
