Obituary

Negaunee Twp. - Leo Joseph Filizetti, age 80, of 59 Heritage Dr., passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008 at his home in Negaunee Twp.

Leo was born August 21, 1928 in Negaunee to Andrew & Geromina (Caldara) Filizetti. Leo attended St. Paul's School in Negaunee. He started working at a young age to help support his family.

Leo worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company for over 30 years, working as a master plumber at the Central Shops. He retired in 1984, but continued helping family & friends with his expertise in plumbing throughout his retirement years. Leo took up the hobby of woodworking and enjoyed making his famous cudighi. Leo was also an avid bowler and horseshoe player. He was an honorary life & 50 year member of the Negaunee Knights of Columbus Council #2894 and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Leo is survived by 3 children: Dorien (Norman) Howe of Negaunee Twp, Chris (Colleen) Filizetti of Negaunee Twp and Becky (Michael) Steele of Aliso Viejo, CA, 4 grandchildren Randy Howe, Chad Filizetti, Chena Filizetti and Samantha Steele, 4 step daughters: Denise (John) Beauchamp of Skandia, Rene' (Hugo) Lehto of Aura, MI, Vicki (John) Haupt of Ishpeming and Michelle (Dave Paquette) Collick of Negaunee, 2 step sons: Walter Turino of Houghton and Greg (Chris) Turino of De Pere, WI, numerous step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren, brother-in-laws Bruno Giotto and Gerry Knight, sister-in-laws Sally (Knight) Truscott and Jeanne (Knight) Lichterman along with numerous nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his 1st wife Margaret (Knight) in 1972, his 2nd wife Leah (Turino) in 2006, 2 sisters: Rita Filizetti and Mary Giotto and a brother Primo Filizetti.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 5:00pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Negaunee with the Rev. Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.

Friends may call St. Paul's Catholic Church on Wednesday from 2:00pm until the time of service at 5:00pm. A luncheon will be held following the service at St. Paul's School gym.

Pallbearers will be Leo's grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Negaunee Knights of Columbus.
