Ishpeming, MI- Lee M. Besola, age 83 longtime Ishpeming resident passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Lee was born March 18, 1940, in Ishpeming to the late Reino and Selma (Hannula) Besola. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on the Destroyer USS Vesole 878. Following his discharge, he moved to Illinois for a few years and eventually returned to the U.P.

Lee worked for Cleveland Cliffs most recently as a vibration Analyst, retiring in 1996 from the Tilden Mine. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing when he was still healthy. He and Gail enjoyed spending time at the cabin south of Ishpeming.

Lee is survived by a son Jeff (Kris Kontio) Besola, four grandchildren; Mathew (Erin) Besola, Melissa (Tony) Darga, Brandon (Kathy) Besola, and Nichole (Jon) Nicely, seven great grandchildren; Tucker Darga, Cadence Besola, Payton Besola, Eliina Besola, Evelyn Besola, Harper Nicely, and Maximus Nicely, a sister Jean (Eugene) Bilkey and nieces and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gail (Headly) in 2022, brothers; Melvin and Alan Besola and a sister Betty Uitto.

Honoring Lee's wishes, cremation will take place with no public service.
