Lauri N. Kangas

Ishpeming- Lauri Kangas, age 84 life long area resident, passed away Tuesday, May 01, 2007 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Township.

Lauri was born October 4, 1922 in Gwinn, to the late Elmer & Hilda Kangas. Lauri graduated from Negaunee High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II. Lauri worked for the Ishpeming School District for many years, retiring in 1988 as a bus driver and in maintenance.

Lauri was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Ishpeming and former member and past chaplain of the Negaunee Eagles Aerie 1944. Lauri enjoyed carpentry work- woodworking was a craft of his. He also enjoyed playing cards especially cribbage, loved dancing at local country & western music hot spots. Lauri was a sports fan of the Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers.

Lauri is survived by his wife Gloria Kangas of Ishpeming Twp, 3 children: Dale (Jeannie) Kangas of Negaunee, Douglas (Christie) Kangas of San Marcos, TX and Barbara (Jim) Racine of Ishpeming, grandchildren: Tracey Hammar, William (Shanda) Bickford, Christopher (Marcia) Kangas, Timothy (Amy) Kangas, Jeanne Racine and Kim Racine, Todd Racine, great grandchildren: Sara, Caleb, David, Keely, Haley, Matthew, Linnea, Joseph, Kelsey, Robby and Abby, 2 sisters: Ruth Champion of Ishpeming and Martha Mattson of West Allis, WI, a brother Eino Kangas of Gwinn, 2 step daughters Georgia (Richard) Schmidt of Wendell,NC and Diane Larson of Ramsey, MN, 4 step grandchildren, half brother Russell Kanerva and numerous nieces & nephews. Lauri was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife Helen Jean Kangas and 9 brothers & sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev Virginia Eggert officiating.

Friends may call at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday from 10:00a.m. until the time of service. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lauri's grandchildren.
