Ishpeming- Laura Racine Caughill, age 89 Ishpeming resident passed away Saturday August 8, 2015 at her home while in the loving care of her family & UP Home Health & Hospice.
Laura was born August 31st, 1925 in Roswell, Ohio the daughter of Carlo and Ida (Zucal) Terzaghi. Her parents moved to Negaunee in 1930 from Detroit, Michigan. Laura lived most of her life in Negaunee and Ishpeming. In her later years, she spent her winters in Arizona.
Laura was a graduate of St. Paul's Catholic School in Negaunee, MI in 1943. She was the salutatorian of her class and enjoyed her school years very much.
In 1946, she married Theodore H. Racine of Ishpeming, MI. They were married for thirty nine years. Ted passed away in June of 1985. After six years, while visiting her children in Phoenix, Arizona she met Ray Caughill. They were married for twelve years. Ray passed away in 2003.
After her marriage to Ted her main interests were her loving family. As time went on, there were many dinners for her extended family. Laura's hobbies included taking photos of her family and the scenery of both Michigan and Arizona. In her leisure time, she enjoyed oil painting, knitting, and baking her many delicious cakes and cookies, as well as ethnic Italian meals.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Stephan Michael, and sisters Mary Virginia and Rose Marie Flynn.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Dodge (Clyde), two sons David G. Racine (Lee Ann), Thomas J. Racine (John Hill), a daughter Carol R. McNally (Daniel), a stepdaughter Gail Gifford (Dick), and stepson Glenn Nicoles (Laddie).
Laura has seven Grandchildren, Angela O'Brien (Mike Giotto), Luke Racine, Daniel Racine (Alyssa), Sarah Nygard (Jason), Aaron Racine (Katie), Matthew and Ashley McNally. She also has seven great grandchildren, Jacob and Emma O'Brien, Evan, Avery, and Austin Nygard, Jackson and Mia Racine. Laura also has many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday August 11th at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30am until the time of services 11:00am on Tuesday at St. John's Church.
A luncheon at the church hall will follow the services. Internment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
