Michigamme, MI - Larry Robert Frisk, age 68, of Michigamme, left this world on September 26, 2021, at UP Health System Marquette due to complications arising after a medical procedure; he had his wife of 35 years and their children by his side.
Born on March 5, 1953 in Marquette, MI to Calvin and Roberta (Lawrence) Frisk of Michigamme, Larry was the second of five boys who always kept their mom on her toes. Larry graduated from Champion High School, Class of 1971. Following graduation he was employed by Kimberly-Clark as a lumber inspector then Luke Brothers Construction before finding his career at Mead Paper. After the closure of Mead Paper in Champion, he worked with Laitala Excavating until retirement.
Larry enjoyed playing baseball with the Michigamme Meatballs and later became the coach of the Michigamme Little League. Following in his father's footsteps, he was an avid volunteer in the Michigamme and Spurr community. Known for being the loud announcer and the one who gave Michigamme it's amazing fireworks, he was a friendly face at all area events. Larry was a member of the Champion Lions Club, the Michigamme-Spurr Fire Board, the Michigamme-Spurr 4 th of July Committee, and a past Michigamme Township Trustee.
Larry married Kathleen (Reilly) Frisk on Valentine's Day of 1986, a date chosen so that he would never forget their anniversary. They made their home on Lake Michigamme, just a few blocks from the house Larry grew up in. Their children by birth, Whitney Saunders and Robert Frisk, along with their child by choice, Tonya Ringuette, allowed Larry to be his true self: fun-loving and a kid at heart. He spent as much time on the lake as possible, bringing friends and family out on his always-shiny Glastron boat, or encouraging them to zip around on a jet ski. Larry could be found spending his free time outside, cross country skiing, swimming, hiking, hunting, mountain biking, or enjoying the view of the lake from his hammock chair on the deck.
Larry is survived by his wife Kathleen "Kay" Frisk of Michigamme; his children Whitney (James) Saunders of Michigamme, Robert (Abbi) Frisk of Lansing, and Tonya (Shawn) Ringuette of Clarksburg; grandchildren Quinn Saunders and Troy Ringuette; his mother Roberta "Birdie" Frisk of Michigamme; three brothers, Denny (Penny) Frisk of Champion, Tim (Pam) Frisk of Champion, and Barry (Sue) Frisk of Wilson; sister-in-law Mary Claire Frisk of Marquette; nieces and nephews he loved as his own, Cory (Nicki) Frisk, Kara (Marcin) Szember, Deanna (Matt) LaCosse, Debbi (Marc) Marizzaldi, Derek (Lisa) Frisk, Matt (Becky) Frisk, Marisa Frisk, and Justin Frisk; and sister-in-law Margo (Donny) Santti.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Calvin "Cal" Frisk, brother Calvin "Kelly" Frisk, and nephew B.J. Senske.
Against his wife's wishes he often wore Crocs, and in remembrance of Larry, we encourage you to wear Crocs as the shoe choice to his Celebration of Life. The family will receive friends and relatives at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. with food and refreshments available throughout. A memory and story sharing opportunity will be lead by Pastor Paul Peterson beginning at 6 p.m.
