Obituary

Negaunee—Kyle R. Ericson, 74, of Negaunee died Thursday evening May 21, 2009.

Kyle was born in Ishpeming, Michigan, on August 8, 1934 to Elmer and Ruth Ericson. He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1952. After graduation, Kyle enlisted in the United State Navy and served from 1952 until August of 1955. Upon discharge he enrolled in Michigan Technological University and earned a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1959.


In 1958 he married Joan (Beckman) Ericson. After stops in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Iron Mountain, Michigan, he and Joan moved their young family to Negaunee. Kyle returned to area to work for Cleveland Cliffs. Throughout his employment with Cliffs, Kyle worked at the Republic, the Tilden and the Empire mines. He retired from CCI as the General Superintendent of the Empire Mine in 1993 and spent a few years travelling the country before he and Joan finally settled on Fort Myers Beach, Florida, as their winter getaway.

Kyle's love for music started in high school and continued throughout his life. He was a skilled trombone player having spent time at Interlochen during high school and continued his trombone playing throughout the years in parades. He was a former member of the Negaunee Male Chorus and currently a member of the Indian Creek Park Choir in Fort Myers Beach. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time with his family fishing and camping. Kyle was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Negaunee Elks Club, and the Wawonowin Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Joan M. Ericson, son Kevin (Karen) Ericson of Hancock, and daughters Karin (Kevin) Stulz and Kimberly (Gary) Brunswick of Marquette. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Emily and Connor Stulz, Kaitlyn, Korey and Kenneth Ericson, Kyle J. Ericson and Celinda, Andrew and Isabella Brunswick. Kyle was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Ruth Ericson, his brother Kenneth R. Ericson and his son Kurt N. Ericson.

Funeral Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church at 5:00PM on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 with Pastor Scott Lindenberg officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 2:00PM until the time of services at the church.

Memorial considerations may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 801 Hemlock St. Ishpeming, Michigan, in memory of Kyle.
