Ishpeming, MI- Kathryn Ellen Hamel, age 88, Ishpeming resident and longtime Champion resident passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of her family and staff at MCMCF.

Kathryn was born in Crystal Falls, MI on October 15, 1934, a daughter of the late John M. and Ellen M. (Hendrickson) Augustson.

Kathryn was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Republic. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, reading, restoring antique furniture, and coffee clutching. Most importantly she enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She was a wonderful mother who raised her four children.

Kathryn is survived by four children; Gary (Diane) Hamel, Rose (Robert) Saxwold, Sandra (Paul) Guizzetti and Lori Brewer, six grandchildren; Jesselyn (Ben) Bourque, Travis (Shaly) Guizzetti, Jared Guizzetti, Ciara Brewer, Austin Brewer, Cara Saxwold, eight great grandchildren; Helena, Leeland, Joe, Ryder, Wes, Kaiya, Reese, Ryan, a sister Millie (Pete) Alatalo, sister-in-law Barbara Augustson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, husband; David, infant son Johnny, son in law; Bill Brewer, and a brother Larry Augustson.

Kathryn's family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00-4:00 pm on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home where a memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating.

A dessert social will be held at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming following the service.
