Obituary

Negaunee – Kathryn E. Goethe, age 87, of 1224 Wenonah St., Negaunee passed away on Wednesday December 16, 2009 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she had been a resident for the past 5 days.


Kathryn was born December 29, 1921 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late John O. and Angeline H. (Snell) Eskela. Kathryn was a graduate of the Negaunee High School, Class of 1939 and attended the Cleary Business College for a year. She worked in the main office for the North Range Mining Co. in Negaunee for several years. Kathryn married Norman Goethe on Sept. 2, 1950. She then became a homemaker, with the raising of her sons becoming the greatest priority in her life, always making sure they were taken care of. Kathryn is fondly remembered as a great cook, along with having a kind and generous soul. Kathryn's faith meant a lot to her. She was a member of the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church, the women's circle, and had been an active participant in the Eastwood Ministry.


Kathryn is survived by two sons; Norman J. Goethe of Green Bay and David (Kimberly) Goethe of Canton Twp., a grandson Justin Goethe of Canton Twp., and a brother John (Irene) Eskela of Ishpeming. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman W. Goethe in 2003.


The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday December 19, 2009 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee where funeral services will be held at 1:00pm with Rev. Dale Niskanen and Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.


Memorials may be directed to the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kathryn's memory.


Pallbearers will be Alan Ammesmaki, Bob Edwards, Leonard Laurila, Richard Lehto, Marvin Ruspakka & Duane Soine.


The family would like to thank the staffs of the Bell Hospital, Eastwood Nursing Center, Mather Nursing Center, and the Upper Peninsula Home Health Services for their care and kindness shown to Kathryn and her family.
