Ishpeming/Negaunee- A. Kathleen Carlson, age 74 a longtime Ishpeming and Negaunee resident passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Eastwood Nursing Center while in the loving care of her family, staff of Eastwood, and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Kathleen was born December 27, 1942 in Ishpeming to the late Leonard J. and Lillian A. (Pellonpaa) Hellier. She graduated from Ishpeming High School. Kathleen worked for CCI at the Tilden Mine, the Mining Journal and was the production manager for the Action Shopper for 15 years
Kathleen was a music specialist for the Head Start program and enjoyed playing the accordion for residents at local nursing homes. She also enjoyed playing horseshoes, softball and volleyball and fishing was another hobby of hers.
Kathleen is survived by 3 children: Kathie (Craig) Stagliano of Negaunee, Carl H. (Sharon) Carlson III of L'Anse and Mark L. Carlson of Negaunee, a sister Sharon (David) Watkins of North Carolina, 8 grandchildren: Burton (Nikki) Clement, Joseph L'Huillier, Carl (Kristin) Carlson IV, Aubrie Carlson, Jessica (James) DeVold, Alex Pascoe, Natalie Carlson and Camron Carlson, 7 great grandchildren: Jadynn Clement, Angelina L'Huillier, Carl Carlson V, Alexandra Carlson, Madison Swenor, Kash DeVold and Karson DeVold, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers: Rev. Michael J. Hellier and Lt. Col. Charles Hellier.
Kathleen's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00-11:00 am on Friday September 1, 2017 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.
A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
