Ishpeming, MI- Kathryn A. (Mayry) Chapman, age 81 formerly of 111 Bluff St. Ishpeming and most recently a resident at Transition Assisted Living in Gladstone, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at OFS St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Kathryn was born in Ishpeming on May 16, 1942, daughter of the late Anna Marie (Anderson) and Toivo Mayry. She was a graduate of Ishpeming High School Class of 1960 and a member of Augustana School of Nursing Class of 1963 in Chicago, IL. On July 31, 1965, she married James Chapman at Bethany and from then they moved 13 times. They bought their camp on the Little Dead from her parents in 1976 and enjoyed being on the Dead River for many years. They went to South Padre TX for 10 years after retirement for the winters, renting from his cousin Clifford Chapman.

Kathryn's last job as a nurse was at the Empire Mine, which she enjoyed. After they moved to Trinidad W.I. for 3 years and did some island hoping and were thrilled to see Pavarotti in an open-air concert in Barbados.

Some of Kathryn's favorite activities were meeting with classmates for lunch and getting together with the Wednesday group of the Little Dead. She was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed reading being in a Book Club, and a member of Friends of the Library group and was active in Bible Study at Bethany Lutheran Church where she was a member.

Kathryn is survived by a daughter Denise M. Clark (Brent), a son James M. Chapman (Andrea), four grandchildren: Kate Clark, Jacob T. Clark, Jenna M. Chapman, and Abby M.  Chapman a sister Lois M. Palkki (Allyn) and several cousins. Kathie's family would like to acknowledge her wonderful friendships she had with Connie Pepin, Sherry Conradson and Kathy Pearce.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 2012, after that Kathie rented a condo in Ishpeming and no longer did any traveling to Texas, enjoyed camp in the summer and winters in the U.P.

Honoring Kathie's wishes cremation will take place and a private service will be held.
