Ishpeming – Katherine L. "Kate" Anderson, age 87, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while under the loving care of their staff, her family and the Lake Superior Hospice.


Katherine was born June 4, 1926 in Green Creek Location, the daughter of the late Samuel and Jennie (Gjolme) Watters. Kate was a lifelong Ishpeming area resident and a graduate of the National Mine High School, Class of 1944. She had worked as a seamstress at the H. W. Gossard Co. for 25 years and then as a nurses aid and in housekeeping at the Mather Nursing Center for another 15 years.

Katherine was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she had been an active member of the women's guild. Kate enjoyed playing cards with the Senior Cribbage Club. She loved gardening, picking blueberries. Her grandchildren were a big part of her life.

Survivors include a son Edward (Sue) Anderson of Ishpeming, 2 sisters – Betty McEachern and Grace LaValley both of Marquette, a brother Raymond Watters of Ishpeming, 2 grandchildren – Brian E. (Danielle) Anderson and Rachel (Stephen) Robinson, 2 great grandchildren Nora Jo and Barrett Anderson, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Anderson on April 17, 1998, brothers – Jim, Bob, Bud, Clinton and George and sisters Ethel and Olive.


Private funeral services will be held at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
