Diorite Location – Karen H. Peterson, age 73, passed away on Thursday June 11, 2009 at 2:00am while in the loving care of her daughter and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.


Karen was born January 25, 1936 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late George and Marie (Schultz) Oie. Karen was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1954. Karen had held various secretarial jobs in the area until her retirement in her 50's. Karen moved to Western Australia from 1972 until 1976 when she moved back to Ishpeming. She later moved to Phoenix, AZ and again moved back to Ishpeming in 2006. Karen had attended Hope Free Evangelical Lutheran Church and was previously a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.


Karen enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge which she was an excellent player, along with cribbage and poker. She enjoyed traveling, visiting China, Africa, New Zealand, Australia, along with most of the United States. She also enjoyed cruising with her daughter and friends.


Survivors include two daughters - Kim (Glen) Wing of Diorite Loc., Jeri (Garry) Letchford of Perth, West Australia, two sons – Richard Hill of Ishpeming, Daniel (Kim) Peterson of Boise, ID, a sister Marilyn (Rod) Wiest of Republic, 10 grandchildren – Christopher (Coreen) Marvin, James (Becky) Marvin, Steve Marvin, Michael Hill, Holliann Hill, Amanda Peterson, Brooke Peterson, Kelly Letchford, Nicholas Letchford, and Trisha Wing, three great grandchildren Sarah Marvin, Jared Marvin and Arianna Erickson. She was preceded in death by her husband George Peterson.


According to Karen's wishes, no services will be held.
