Obituary

Michigamme – June E. Eliason, 77, of 221 Brown Road, Lake Michigamme peacefully entered eternal life on Friday, November 7, 2008.

June was born on December 6, 1930 in Beacon Michigan to Eino and Ellen (Saari) Hyry. She was a graduate of the Champion High School class of 1948 earning honors as co-valedictorian. June later met and married Arne R. Eliason on December 17, 1949 in Republic, Michigan. Following a mining injury to Arne, June embarked on a dual role career as a devoted wife/mother and full-time employee with the State of Michigan. She completed her working career as an administrative secretary with Cleveland-Cliffs, retiring in 1986 after 20 years of dedicated service.

June enjoyed the peace and solitude of her home on Lake Michigamme while knitting, quilting, reading, gardening and watching the Green Bay Packers. She especially loved spending winters in Mazatlan, Mexico with Arne and their friends. June attended Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Champion/Michigamme.

June is survived by her beloved children: Steven (Denise) Eliason, Vicki (James) Gaboury, Scott (Janice) Eliason and Suzi (Donald) Zaiki, her cherished grandchildren: Stephanie (Mark) Burns, Shannon Eliason, Jeremy Gaboury, Eric (Bethany) Eliason, Andrew (Fiancée' Jodi Jacobson) Eliason, Megan Zaiki, Mark Zaiki and Jessica Zaiki: her special great-grandchildren Mariah, Jacob and Matthew, her sisters and brothers-in-law: Judith (Donald) Hamari and Jewel (Douglas) Duhame, sister-in-law: Patricia Hyry and aunts: Sylvia LaCosse and Julianne LaMere. Also surviving is Arne's sister: Laina Dunn and brothers and sisters-in-laws: Edwin Eliason, Ray (Darleen) Eliason, Dennis (Julie) Eliason and Paul (Elaine) Eliason. June was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Francis Hyry.

A private family service was held and officiated by Rev. D. Michael Carriere. Interment took place at the Humboldt Township Cemetery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Sara Miller and her wonderful staff at Warner Creek Residential Care Facility, Dr. Catherine Kroll, Anne Michell and the nursing staff of UP Home Health and Hospice.
