Obituary
Ishpeming - June Marie Bjorne, age 86, of 1901 Division St. Marquette, passed away Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Facility while in the loving care of her family.
June was born in North Lake Location on November 16, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Emma (Hanson) Carlson. She was a 1939 graduate of Ishpeming High School and married Edwin J. Bjorne on March 14, 1942 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. She resided in Ishpeming until 1960 when she moved to Crystal Falls until 2000. She then returned to Ishpeming and resided at 717 W. Empire until January 2008 when she moved to Brookridge Heights Assisted Living in Marquette.
June was a bank teller at the Peninsula Bank of Ishpeming and later at the First National Bank of Crystal Falls retiring in 1985. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, the Martha Circle and a former member of United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting items for every family member. June was a devoted and caring mother and grandmother who always had a positive and pleasant attitude. Edwin and June wintered in Florida during their retirement years. She followed and attended games of the Green Bay Packers. June enjoyed entertaining family and time spent at their camp on Perch Lake.
June is survived by two daughters: Janice (Bruce) Collins of Kingsford, Barbara (Ray) Yunkari of Marquette, a son: Ralph (Susan) Bjorne of Manistique, a brother: Clyde Carlson of Ishpeming, 9 grandchildren: Todd (Kim) Collins, Kirstin (Matt) Rose, Eric (Laura) Collins, Brian (Brenna) Yunkari, Matthew Yunkari, Brad Yunkari, Andrew (Angela) Bjorne, Dean Bjorne, and Tara (Caleb) Varoni, 9 great grandchildren: Anthony & Emily Collins, Hannah & Grace Tahtinen, Hayden Rose, Lilly, Evan & Leah Collins, along with several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her husband Edwin on May 25, 1997, Brothers: Edward & Robert Carlson, sisters: Marguerite Salmi, and Betty Eliason and grandson Nicholas Bjorne.
Funeral Services will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church, at 3:00PM on Saturday, April 25th, with Rev. Warren Geier officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives Saturday from 1:00PM until the time of services at the church. A luncheon will follow the services. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming at 715 Mather Ave., Ishpeming, MI 49849.
