Negaunee- Judith Lynne Salbert, age 73 of 207 W. Case St. Negaunee passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at her son's home surrounded by her loving family. She was taken great care of by both family and Lake Superior Hospice.
Judy was born and raised in Detroit, MI; she attended St. Cyril High School and moved to the Upper Peninsula (Engadine, MI) in the early 60's where her three children were raised. She was employed by the ASCS office in Engadine and then for 20 years by the DNR in Newberry, MI. At the DNR, she had many friends whom she missed, but still visited after she retired in 2005. Upon retirement, Judy moved to Negaunee, MI to be near her son, Dave, and his family. In later years during the winters, she would spend time with her other two children, Geoff and Rebecca, in Florida.
While residing in Negaunee, Judy enjoyed attending the many activities her grandchildren participated in. She would drive many of the girls softball players to their games and was affectionately known as "Gramma Judy" by the players.
In her spare time, Judy enjoyed traveling, reading, crosswords, and playing the piano and organ. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends.
Judy was the loving mother of Geoffrey (Karina) of Lake Worth, FL, Rebecca (James Lambert) of Plantation, FL, and David (Juline) of Negaunee, MI. She was the proud Grandmother of Rashael, Chelsea, Devin and Isabella and Great Grandmother, "GG" to Ayla May. She was a dear sister to Dennis (Laura) Smith, Ron (Rosie) Smith, and MaryAnn (Phillip) Rayrat. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy Smith of Detroit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:00 noon, Thursday March 31, 2016 at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating.
Judy's family will greet relatives and friends at St. Paul Catholic Church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon.
A luncheon will be held at St. Paul School gymnasium following the funeral service.
Memorials may be made in Judy's name to Lake Superior Hospice in Marquette, MI.
