Obituary

Ishpeming – Joyce L. Delongchamp, age 79, of 435 Stoneville Rd. Ishpeming Twp. passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the Mather Nursing Center.

Joyce was born September 29, 1929 in Gwinn, the daughter of the late Ina (Mattson) and Sylvester Wiitala.

Following her marriage to Joseph "Louie" Delongchamp in 1947, Joyce lived in the Ishpeming area raising their seven children. With an empty nest and poor local economic conditions in the early 1980's, Joyce and Louie set out traveling and working in many communities throughout the country. She developed a strong fondness for travel and became an adventurer as an antique and collectables dealer. Joyce was a loving and open person developing many lifelong friendships throughout her life's journey.

Family visits were always exciting listening to stories of her travels and sharing in the many discoveries she brought back with her. Prior to returning to Michigan in 2005, Joyce adopted Texas as a home base for her travels and lived there for many years. She enjoyed family, friends, fishing, camping, bingo and traveling.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph "Louie" Delongchamp, parents: Ina and Sylvester of Rock, sister Ruth (Emelio) Baldini of CA, brother Rudolph Wiitala or Rock, sister and brother-in-law: Harry and Jean Kempke, niece: Joyce Kempke, nephew: Steven Raisanen, special cousin Edward "Sonny" (Erna) Aho.

Survivors include her seven children: David of Kaukauna, WI, Sandra (Doug) Schoonover of Huntington Beach, CA, Daryl (Sharon) of Negaunee, Jerry (Amanda) of Peoria, AZ, Roger of Anchorage, AK, Joseph (Debra) of Little Chute, WI, Robert (Marsha) of California, sister: Jeannette Luoma of Ishpeming, nephews: Larry (Mary) Baldini of Lancaster, CA, Dan Baldini of Gladstone, Michael Raisanen of Ishpeming, Mark (Leslee) Raisanen of Ishpeming, Chris Kempke of Ishpeming, niece: Ann (Rob Gensheimer) Poirier of Negaunee, niece and goddaughter: Chief master Sgt. U.S.A.F Dawn Raisanen of O'Fallon, IL numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming at 1:00PM with Rev. Virginia Eggert officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 11:00AM until the time of services. Interment will follow at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joyce's sons.
