Rock, MI - Joyce Marie Anderson of Rock, Michigan passed away peacefully on October 18, 2019. She was born on September 3, 1938, the first child into the loving family of Osmo and Irene Aalto. Joyce was big sister to Celia (Viitala) and Mike Aalto. She was raised on a family farm in West Rock and attended the Rock School where she graduated in 1956.

Joyce married her high school sweetheart Ralph Anderson on May 3, 1956. They raised their family of four in New Swanzy, Michigan. Sheila Anderson, Julia Anderson-Leake, Rebecca Anderson and Mitchell Anderson.  While raising four children Joyce was a real estate agent, apartment complex manager and attended Northern Michigan University where she graduated with honors in 1973. She began teaching night classes at K.I. Sawyer A.F.B. for adult education but later took a position with the I.B.E.W Local 1070 administering the Michigan Upper Peninsula Pension. She worked for many years at the union hall with her dear friend Judy Miller.

Joyce was widowed in 1981 and three years later she moved to Arizona. There she worked in the retail and service industries and hospice care. In Arizona she met her longtime companion Connally (Bill) Meador. They both enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.

Joyce loved bowling league, sewing, traveling, casino trips, playing cards and snowmobiling, but most of all being with her family. She and Ralph, Cil and Les and Mike and Kay, along with all their children spent many memorable times together.

Joyce was blessed with eight grandchildren, Tracie Roy, Charlie VanGinkle, Andrew Anderson, Anthony West, Casey Leake, Maegen Leake, Zia Anderson and Kaili Anderson.  She had five great grandchildren, Dannielle Zuern, Samantha Rose, Mya Zuern, Summer Argall and Allison Aronson along with two great great grandchildren, Nolan Zuern and Owen Rose.

Mom, Grandma, Sister, Friend, Cousin, Auntie, In-law, whatever Joyce was to you, she will be forever loved and remembered in all our hearts.

A Memorial Service for Joyce will be held in Rock at the Lions Club on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 3-5.
