Obituary
Ishpeming – Joy A. Dobson, age 72, of 815 S. Pine St., Ishpeming, passed away on Monday March 16, 2015 while in the loving care of her family at UP Health System Bell, where she had been a patient since this past Friday.
Joy was born April 26, 1942 in Palmer the daughter of the late David and Lempi (Kujanpaa) LaChance. She grew up in Palmer and was a proud graduate of the St. Paul's High School, Class of 1960. Joy first worked at the H W Gossard Co. in Ishpeming as a seamstress. She married the love of her life R. Gerry Dobson on Sept. 29, 1962. They lived in Kenosha, WI for a few years where Gerry was employed and returned to Ishpeming in 1964, resided here since. Joy returned to work, this time in the produce dept. at Joseph's Store, and then for area families as a nanny for several years.
Joy and Gerry enjoyed traveling and camping with her family and friends in there retirement years. She loved to work on crossword puzzles, playing BINGO and spending time around her family.
Survivors include a daughter Vickie (Paul Talbacka) Morcom; and a son Valgene "Geno" (Nicole) Dobson both of Ishpeming; grandchildren – McKenzie, Lyndsey, Riley Dobson and Kaeleigh Talbacka; sister – Viola (Gordon) LaMere of Soumi Loc.; 2 brothers-in-law – Ed (Karen) Dobson of Ishpeming; Ray (Rita Perrault) Dobson of Negaunee; a sister-in-law Joan (Sal) Sarvello of Marquette; a special friend and BINGO buddy Jean Harmala; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joy was preceded in death by her husband R. Gerry Dobson on Jan. 20, 2014, her parents, a brother Charles LaChance and infant siblings Morris and Rita, along with her in-laws - William "Wick" and Marie Dobson.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 until 7pm on Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00pm on Friday with the Rev. J.J. Mannschreck to officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve, Robbie and Matt Dobson, Matt and Joe Valima, Ray and Nick LaMere.
