Obituary

Ishpeming- Joseph H. "Joe" Roose, age 88 former Ishpeming resident and longtime resident of Lake Michigamme passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at UP Health System Marquette due to complications of pneumonia.

Joseph was born October 25, 1929 in Marquette to Joseph and Viola (Christian) Roose. Joe graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1947, attended N.M.U. and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Following his service to his country Joe returned to the U.P. and worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as an operations shift supervisor and foreman. He was respected by all who worked for and with him.

While a resident of the City of Ishpeming, Joe served his community as a council member and as Mayor. He and his wife were co-owners of Needle and Thread Originals. While a resident on Lake Michigamme he served as President of the Lake Michigamme Property Owners Association. Joe enjoyed tinkering in his garage, where he liked spending time rebuilding old tractors and working on cars. He was a former member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge and Wawonowin Golf Club. Joe was a devoted son and loving husband, dad, and grandpa.

Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara (LaParche) Roose, 5 children: Debbie (Steve) Branstrom of Perkins, MI, Linda (Lou) Kolky-Bollon of Mayville, MI, Joe (Michel) Roose of Crystal Falls, MI, Steve (Janice) Roose of Mesa, AZ and Chris (Pam) Roose of Ishpeming, MI, and a son in law Michael Richards of Ishpeming, MI. Grandchildren: Shawn Howe, Stephen Branstrom Jr., Heather Koutz, Bradley Kolky, Cory Richards, Michelle Kronner, Nicole Fedie-Zaupa, Taylor Roose, Hilary Roose, Rachel Roose, Carley Roose, Makayla Roose, Miranda Roose and Hunter Roose, 18 great grandchildren, one nephew and 2 nieces. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Edna (Forsberg) Roose and an infant son, who both passed away during childbirth, a daughter Kathy Richards and a brother Edward Roose.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion, MI with Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating. Joe's family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00-4:00 pm Thursday at Sacred Heart Church. A luncheon will follow.

Joe's grandchildren will be the Pallbearers.

Honorary Pallbearers: John Roose, Vince Halamaa, Chris Fisher and Dixon Holmgren.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #380.

Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Michigamme Area Seniors, P.O. Box 220 Michigamme, MI 49861 in memory of Joe Roose.

Joe's family would like to thank Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful loving care they provided Joe the past 4 plus years. Also, they would like to acknowledge some special nurses and doctors that cared for Joe in the ER and Step Down Unit at UP Health System Marquette during his illness.
