Ishpeming, MI- Joseph Francis Healey, age 92, a lifelong Ishpeming resident, passed
away Sunday, November 18th, 2018 at D. J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he
resided for the past month.
Joseph was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on March 19, 1926, a son of the late John F.
Healey. He attended St. John's Catholic School, and Ishpeming High School. He
served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1/c in WW II.
Joe worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 36 years, retired in 1982 as a
Maintenance Foreman from the Pellet Plant at the Empire Mine.
Joe was a member of the Ishpeming ELKS Club, Ishpeming VFW Post 4573 and the
Wawonowin Country Club and he played cribbage for many years in the Ishpeming
Cribbage League. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, exercising (walking, & swimming).
Joe and his wife enjoyed spending vacations and weekends at their camp on Helen
Lake and for 17 of their retirement years they wintered in Panama City, FL, and North
Padre Island, TX.
Joe is survived by three sons David (Marge) Healey, of Negaunee, Paul (Jackie)
Healey, of Ishpeming, Jeff Healey, of Oshkosh, WI; a sister Mary Beth (Dennis) Kari of
Ishpeming, 2 brothers: John (Jean Ann) Healey of Ishpeming and Patrick Healey of
Ishpeming, 9 grandchildren – Darrell Healey, Brian (Kelly) Healey, Jamie (Ed) Pichette,
Ryan Healey, Michael Kulju, Nicole (Travis) Barlock, Todd Healey, Scott Healey and
Amy (Dan) Geffers; along with 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his stepmother Margaret, wife Jeanne in 2014 and a
sister Shirley Bjorne.
Joe's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday,
November 24th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where funeral services will be
held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.
Pallbearer's will be Joe's six grandsons.
A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.
