Ishpeming, MI- Joseph Giroux, age 79, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had resided for the past four years.

Joe was born January 26, 1942, in Adrian, Michigan to the late Leo and Lillian (Grinnell) Giroux. He attended Onsted High School and joined the Marine Corps in 1959 where he served as a Light 30 Gunner for four years.  He married Opal Rae Jeffreys in Onsted on November 22, 1963.

Joe worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 28 years as a mechanic. Shortly after retirement in 2003, he and Opal traveled about the USA, seeing places that they read about, meeting new people and making great friends. Joe and Opal were the host campers and worked at several of the campgrounds at which they stayed, including the Country Village Campground in Ishpeming and Yuma Lakes AZ Campground.

Joe is survived by three sons: J. Michael (Tanya) Giroux of Ishpeming, Jeff (Anne) Giroux of Ishpeming and Jim (Carol) Giroux of Highland Lakes, NJ, a brother, David (Dorothy) Giroux of Onsted, a sister-in-law, Bonnie Giroux of Adrian, 8 grandchildren: Taylor, Tanner (fiancé Rachel Garcia), Spencer, Levi, Joseph, Angela, Nate and Elise Giroux.  He is also survived by a special niece Amber Bottoms, along with many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his wife Opal, his parents, sisters, Judy Simmerson and Leora Giroux and brothers Ronald, Gordon and Daniel Giroux.

Joe's family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00AM to 1:00PM on Saturday October 16, 2021 at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home. In lieu of gifts, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund or Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Jacobetti for caring for Joe over the past four years and more recently, the staff at Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice for their care.
