Ishpeming – John W. "Juss" Koski, age 62 of 250 Marble St. Ishpeming Twp. passed away on Saturday June 11, 2011 at his home in Ishpeming Twp.
John was born November 9, 1948 in Ishpeming the son of the late F. Alfred and Jeanette (Windsand) Koski. Juss was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1966 and went on to attend Northern Michigan University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1970. He enlisted in the United States Army following his college graduation in 1970, serving in counter intelligence during the Vietnam War. Following his service time he returned to Ishpeming, and was employed by the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. He worked for Cliffs for many years, retiring as Supervisor of Research at the Research Lab in Ishpeming in January of 2003.
John was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee and the American Legion, Post #44 of Marquette. He had been on the Ishpeming School Board, serving a term a president. Juss was a true outdoorsman, enjoying such things as deer hunting, fly fishing, flower gardening, which he was known for his Sunflowers which grew to towering heights, and his enormous vegetable garden.
Survivors include his son Bradley (Jen) Koski of Ypsilanti, a granddaughter Abigail Koski of Ypsilanti, a step-son – Lance (Kristen) LaRock of Gwinn, a step-daughter Sherri (Mac) LaRock-MacDonald of Sault Ste. Marie, 2 step-granddaughters – Kadie and Shanna LaRock, a sister Karen Adair of Marietta, GA, nieces Amy and Bridget, nephews Brett, Shane, Kevin, Jesse and Kyle, great nieces Madison, Katie and Alexa, great nephews Cole and Wil, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sandra (Pietila) Koski in Nov. of 1995 and his second wife Karen (Helgren) Koski on March of 2008.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4pm until 6pm on Wednesday June 15, 2011 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:00pm on Wednesday at the funeral home with Charles Prusi to officiate.
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380 will hold a military honors service at the conclusion of the memorial service.
Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
