Ishpeming, MI- John Steven Mathews, 70, of 703 W. Empire St. Ishpeming passed away, Thursday, January 6th, at the Mather Nursing Center, Ishpeming Twp while under the loving care of family and UP Home Health & Hospice.
John was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 22, 1941, a son of the late Sophie (Mariast) and Steven J. Mathews. He served in the U.S. Marines as a LCpl. John was self employed as a Civil War Memorabilia Dealer. He was a member of the Negaunee VFW Post 3165, and enjoyed fishing.
John is survived by his wife Joan (Rodda) Mathews, a daughter Jeannette Hyde of Ishpeming and two grandsons Zackery and Spencer.
The Trisagion will be held 2:00PM on Tuesday, January 10th at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Rev. Leon Jarvis presiding.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1:00-2:00PM.
The Negaunee VFW Post 3165 will conduct Military Honors at the conclusion the funeral ceremony.
