Obituary

Greenwood Location- John R. Lake, age 83 of 3039 Co. Rd. 496 Ishpeming (Greenwood Location), passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at his home under the loving care of family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

John was born October 27, 1926 in Waukegan, IL to John & Helmi (Nelson) Lake. His family moved to the Ironwood area where he attended school and graduated from Ironwood High School, class of 1945. He then served in the United States Air Force being honorably discharged in November 1945.

John continued his education attending Gogebic Junior College for 2 years and he received his bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts from Stout Institute in Menomonie, WI. John worked for 32 years for U.S. Steel Corporation as a Land Representative retiring in 1982. He was on the loan committee at the Ishpeming Credit Union and served as a loan officer before retiring.

John was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where he was active with the Social Ministries; he also belonged to the VASA Lodge and was a Scout Master for 13 years for Troop 300 of Ely Township which he began. John enjoyed taking his vacations with his Boy Scout Troop each year and enjoyed woodworking.

John is survived by his wife of 62 years Joyce (Turovaara) Lake, 3 children: Connie Dorow of Hillsboro, WI, Robert D. (Willow) Lake of Ishpeming and Randy Lake of Ishpeming, 4 grandchildren: Carol Lake, Robert S. (Stephanie) Lake, William Lake and Scott Lake, sister in law Carol Turovaara along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, son in law Dr. Steven Dorow, brother in law Frank Turovaara and sister in law and brother in law Nancy and Robert Larson.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.

Friends may call Bethel Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10:00AM until the time of service at 11:00AM. Military honors will be conduct by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380 at the conclusion of the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be John's sons, grandchildren and Chris Kulju.

Memorials may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church- Social Ministries or UPAWS (Marquette County Humane Society) in memory of John Lake.
