Ishpeming – John P. "Jocko" Clark, age 84, of 724 Poplar St., Ishpeming passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, May 17, 2015 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had resided for the past 3 weeks. "Jocko" was in the loving care of his family, the staff at Jacobetti and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Jocko was born November 2, 1930 in Ishpeming to George C. and Elizabeth (Perkins) Clark and graduated from the Negaunee High School, Class of 1948. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was a member of the DAV. He married Sally McVannel on May 27, 1953. John worked for 32 years for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co., the first 25 years at the Republic Mine and the last seven at the main office in Ishpeming, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Clark was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, and a former member of the Wawonowin Country Club and the Ishpeming Elks Lodge #447. Jocko was an avid golfer and experienced the thrill of 3 hole-in-one's. In his high school years he was an avid basketball and football player. He also loved to watch most sports on the television.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sally Clark of Ishpeming; two sons – John S. Clark of St. Louis Park, MN and Terry M. (Linda) Clark of Negaunee; a daughter, Rev. Cathy Clark of Pickford; a grandson Mitchell Clark; two sisters-in-law – Rosemary Clark of Ishpeming and Darlene McVannel of Chesterfield Twp.; nieces and nephews – Robert (Peggy) Clark, Peggy (Mike) Bertucci, Deborah (Dan) Stoner, Rebecca (Brian) Olds, JR McVannel, Lynn (Fred) Cox, Lana (Mike) Derocha, Dan (Lori) McVannel and Duane (Tina) Mcvannel. He was preceded in death by his parents George Clark and Elizabeth Sundberg; two brothers – George and Neil Clark, and a brother-in-law – Roger McVannel.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00noon on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Ishpeming with the Rev's Manuel Padilla and Virginia Graybill to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:30am until the time of the service on Wednesday at the Grace Episcopal Church. A luncheon in the guild hall will immediately follow the service. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in John's memory to the Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
