Republic- John C. Couveau, age 73 longtime Republic resident passed away at his home on Monday, May 8, 2017

John was born December 21, 1943 in Iron Mountain, MI to Joseph W. and Rose A. (Shefchik) Couveau. He graduated from Republic High School and served 2 years in the U.S. Army. John worked for Upper Peninsula Power Company for 33 years mostly as a lineman, retiring in 2000.

John was an active member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Republic where he served as an usher and helped with the pasty sales. John looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Canada with his son Vincent. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. John was always willing to help others and enjoyed the companionship with his significant other Margie Mattila and her family.

John is survived by his son Vincent Couveau of Macomb, MI, significant other Margie Mattila and her family, 9 sisters and brothers: Joan (Gilbert) Witte of Iron Mountain, Janet Larch of Kingsford, Jean Mosley of Clovis, CA, Nancy (Don) Antonetti of Iron Mountain, Joe (Sandy) Couveau of Republic, Judy (Joseph) Valente of Marquette, June Mackus of McHenry, IL, Jeff (Barb) Couveau of Republic, and Amy (William) Dale of Grand Ledge, MI, brothers in law: Fran (Lenore) Sevegney of Ishpeming and Peter (Norma) Sevegney of Ishpeming, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Rose Couveau, wife Mary (Sevegney) Couveau and brothers in law: William Burke, William Larch, Paul Machus, Skip Mosley, Peter Mackus and John Sevegney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 12, 2017 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Republic with Fr. Dan Moll officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Republic Twp Cemetery.

John's family will greet relatives and friends at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon.

A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
