Ishpeming- Joel Alan Halverson, age 72, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday August 25, 2024 at his home.
Joel was born on May 4, 1952 in Saint Paul, MN, son of the late John and Emma (Mathis) Halverson. He grew up in Minnesota and worked construction throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served in support of operation Desert Storm from 1990-1995 before his retirement from the Air Force in 1995. Joel then worked in the maintenance department at Bell Memorial Hospital for 20 years retiring in 2015.
He is a beloved husband, father and papa. The love of his wife Renelle's life, husband and forever best friend. Joel was a kind, loving person that always put his family first and was a loyal hardworking man that took pride in his military service in the US Air Force. He retired after 21 years of honorary service as a MSGT. We are heartbroken and he will be forever missed.
Joel was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his four wheeler, and going camping with his family.
Joel is survived by his wife of 30 years Renelle (Meiers) Halverson, 4 children- Jayson (Cheryl) Ottensman, Jennifer (Cody) Haglund, David (Alexandra) Halverson and Katie Jo ( fiancée Asa) Halverson, brothers John Halverson (Mary Jo), Michael Halverson and Ken (Connie) Halverson and 9 grandchildren- J.J., Kaylynn, Kaylee, Lucas, Taylor, Ryder, Landon, Madelyn, and Maverick, and 1 nephew- Kyle Meiers. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 brothers and a sister.
A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Sunday September 22, 2024 at 2:00pm where military honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force.
