Negaunee Twp - In a flash of golden brilliance JOANNE CAROLE (BJORNE) JOHNSON, 78, of 34 Midway Drive, Negaunee, MI passed on January 26 ^th , 2021 with her daughter by her side while under the attentive care of the staff of Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L'Anse, MI.  Joanne was born in Ishpeming, MI on October 3 ^rd , 1942 to Mary Elizabeth (Guy) and Leslie Gust Bjorne.  She graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1960 and enrolled in the Practical Nursing program at Northern Michigan College in Marquette, MI.  After passing her State Boards October 18 ^th , 1961 she began her nursing career at Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain, MI. She worked as an Obstetrics nurse at hospitals in Marquette and Ishpeming until obtaining her final nursing position in the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit (S.A.T.U.) at Marquette General Hospital, where she eventually retired.

On February 16 ^th , 1963 she married David Allen Johnson of Champion, MI and happily celebrated their 50 ^th Wedding Anniversary several months before his passing.  A true partnership, they selflessly raised three children and shared all homemaking duties while pursuing their careers. In addition to supporting their children's endeavors (musical and otherwise), Joanne & Dave enjoyed snowmobiling, canoeing, sailing, and traveling to places rich in history and music such as Chicago, Nashville, Houston, Branson and New Orleans.  In the summer you were most likely to find them at their "camp in the backyard", enjoying "Dave's Sauna & Joanne's Pool" along with the beautiful colors from Joanne's landscaping and floral gardening.

Joanne is survived by her children - Karyn (Terri) of Negaunee & Marquette, MI; Keith of AuTrain, MI;  Jeff (Katie Gallagher) of Attleboro, MA;  grandchildren - David McDeid, Elizabeth & Timmy Johnson;  Jessamyn Orr-Obeshaw (Brandon Ketchersid), Akiryanna (Bradley Nicholson), Krissalyn, Charlie & Toby Johnson;  and great-grandchildren - Cadence, Carter & Asher Ketchersid

She is also survived by her sisters - Beverly (Bruce) Mantyla of Appleton, WI and Nancy (John) Cardoni of Green Bay, WI; brothers – Richard Bjorne and Steven Bjorne of Ishpeming, MI; a brother-in-law - Glenn Johnson of Waterford, WI; uncles – Bernhardt Bjorne and Norman Bjorne of Ishpeming, MI; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David and his parents Glenn & Martha Johnson, sister Elizabeth Bjorne, in-laws Barbara & Phillip Alquist, Greg Johnson & Peter Johnson.
