Ishpeming- Joan Elaine Niemi, age 82 of 746 Maurice St. Ishpeming passed away Wednesday January 17, 2018 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she has resided since 2015.

Joan was born July 13, 1935 in Ishpeming to Philmore and Marion (Sestito) Anderson. She attended school in Ishpeming and was a lifelong area resident. Joan enjoyed sewing, looking for good deals at rummage sale and taking care of her family.

Joan is survived by her husband John, children: Lawrence (Helen) Niemi of Cottage Grove, TN, Douglas Niemi of Ishpeming, David Niemi of Milwaukee, WI, Scott (Barbara) Niemi of Ishpeming, Jon Abba of Harvey, Darryl James Niemi of Ishpeming, Ronald (Linda) Niemi of National Mine, Daryl Niemi of Palmer and Sid Niemi of Palmer, a sister Karen Anderson, 2 brothers James Anderson and Noel (Diane) Anderson, sister in law Marlene Anderson, special friend Assunta McClure, special granddaughter Brooke (Chris) Letson, along with numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ronald Anderson and a son Edward F. Niemi.

Honoring the wishes of Joan, there will be no public service.

The family would like to thank the staff at MCMCF for the wonderful care of Joan.
