Ishpeming – Joan P. Hill, age 75, of 603 N. Pine St., Ishpeming passed away on Friday October 29, 2010 at the Marquette General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Joan was born December 1, 1934 in Hastings, MI, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Vera (Rodgers) Ryan. She was a graduate of the Hastings High School, Class of 1952. She moved to Ishpeming in 1968 and has resided here since. Joan was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, serving with the WELCA. Joan will be remembered as a great cook, always willing to lend a hand, baking breads and helping serve soup luncheons on Wednesday's at the Church during the fall and winter months, along with meals at the Negaunee VFW. She also patched any clothing that needed a little fixing at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.
Joan especially enjoyed her grandchildren, always ready to make a meal or take care of their needs. She loved to spend time gardening both flowers and vegetables, sewing along with surfing the internet. She was a member of the Neg. VFW ladies auxiliary, and the Ishpeming American Legion ladies auxiliary. Joan was a supporter of and contributed to the U. S. National Ski Hall of Fame and the Ishpeming Ski Club.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years Clarence "Coy" Hill of Ishpeming, 3 sons – John Sullivan of Ishpeming, Michael Sullivan of Oklahoma City, OK, and Patrick (Jennifer) Hill of Ishpeming, 2 grandchildren Derek and Tyler Hill of Ishpeming and a great grandchild Cameron Soeltner.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Monday Nov. 1, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where funeral services will be held at 1:00pm with the Rev. Kenneth Lahners to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
