Jewel was born in suburban Detroit the daughter of Eino and Ellen (Saari) Hyry.  At this early age a favorite aunt gave her the nickname "Cookie" and said she was such a sweet little cookie.  The name stayed with her throughout her entire life until her death this past Friday.

Her parents, siblings and "Cookie" moved to Champion when she was an infant and remained for all her school years until graduating from high school in 1961.  After her special love Doug was released from the military they married and enjoyed nearly 54 happy years at their home on Rose St. in Ishpeming and cottage on the Peshekee River.  Cookie was employed by the Miner's Bank for over 20 years as a teller.

Cookie was preceded in death by her parents Eino and Ellen Hyry, her In-Laws – Beatrice and Raymond Duhame, brother Frank Hyry, sister and brother-in-law June and Arne Eliason, nephews John Hyry and Lee Hamari, brother-in-law – Ron Duhame and sister-in-law Mary Lou Servant.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 12:00pm on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.  Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm at the church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate.  Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.  A luncheon will be served in the fellowship hall at the conclusion of the services.

Cookie fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and influenza yet greeted visitors and Eastwood staff members with a big smile and a bit of giggling and laughter.  We will all miss and love "sweet little cookie."
