Ishpeming – Jesse C. Fleck, Jr., age 88, of 216 W. Johnson St. passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at his home under the loving care of UPCAP/U.P. Home Health and Hospice Services with his wife, Rose, at his bedside.
Jesse was born on September 28, 1920, in Trafford City, PA, the son of the late Jesse C. and Martha (Reed) Fleck. Jesse served his country during World War II in the Army-Air Corps as a Sergeant in the European Theater until honorable discharge in 1945. He was a member of VFW Post 4573. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he served as a lector, usher and acolyte. Jesse worked as the Parts Department Manager at Hills Chrysler-Plymouth in Negaunee and Vielmetti (Fisher) Chevrolet in Ishpeming until his retirement in 1976. He then worked for Electrolux Corporation for 21years in the sales/service department. Jesse had a keen sense of humor and wit and was very gregarious and affable. He was a woodworker and enjoyed doing home improvement projects.
Jesse is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose (Ombrello) Fleck of Ishpeming, children: Joan (the late Tom) Nennig of Mukwonago, WI, James (Janet) Fleck of Marshfield, WI, and Mary Jane (Howard) Vanderstow of Olivet, MI, 2 sisters: Alene (Bud) Penevost, Lillian (Donald) Racine, and brother William (Marsha) Fleck, 6 grandchildren: Jason Nennig, Charity (Joshua) Wanta, Nicole (Wesley) VanVleck, Cayla Fleck, Amanda Vanderstow, and Hilary Vanderstow, 3 great-grandchildren: Abigail Wanta, Logan VanVleck, and James Wanta, and a fourth great-grandbaby due in June 2009. Jesse is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; the family would like to extend sincere appreciation for all the continued support provided by Sharon and Lowell Griffis of Ishpeming.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 12, 2009, at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming. The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A luncheon will be held following a military honors presentation at the church. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming cemetery in the summer of 2009.
The family would also like to extend their sincere appreciation to Lynn Maki Skaggs from UPCAP, and the many private duty aides and healthcare professionals who assisted in his care.
