Ishpeming Twp, MI- Jerry D. "Eino" Pope, age 63, Ishpeming Township resident passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay, WI.
Jerry was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on July 23, 1960, a son of Colleen E. (Parviainen) and Llewellyn J. Pope. He graduated from Westwood High School, Class of 1979.
Jerry worked as a Corrections Officer for the State of Michigan working 33 years at the Marquette Branch Prison, retiring in 2016.
Jerry was an avid sports fan, his favorite teams were the Michigan Wolverines, Green Bay Packer, Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed playing softball and golf. Jerry was a former club champion at Wawonowin Golf Club where he was a member for many years. He had many golf accomplishments including 5 holes in ones, and a double eagle. Hunting and spending time at camp were other hobbies he enjoyed. He was proud of his kids and grandkids, enjoyed watching them play in their activities. Jerry was an excellent cook, known for his homemade cudighi made with his buddies.
Jerry is survived by his wife Amanda (Genord) Pope, whom he married on July 8, 2005, his sons; Anthony (Megan) Pope of Ishpeming, Steve (Mae Richter) of Green Bay, Sam (Emily) Genord of Negaunee and D.J. (Lindsey) Jain of Wauconda, IL, his mother Colleen Collins of Ishpeming, his father L. "Buster" Pope of Ishpeming, a sister Kathy (Jerry) Pope-Gaston of Sunbury, OH, 8 grandchildren; Katherine, Arvo, and Silas Pope, Sammy, Emmett, and Anders Genord, Brody Kangas, and Grace Richter, mother- in- law Janet Genord of Iron Mountain, 3 nephews: Eric Gaston, and Mark Gehring of OH, and Marc (Rylee) Sorrell of Charlevoix, sisters-in-laws; Joyce Genord, Lauri (Roger) Kulju of Iron Mountain, very special aunt and uncle: Mary and Doug Parviainen, and uncle Jack Parviainen, along with several cousins.
Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, two sisters: Mary Pope Gehring, and Julie Pope and brother Charles Pope, a special aunt JudyThibodeau.
Honoring Jerry's wishes a private family service will be held.
Those wishing to honor Jerry may consider making a donation to either the Westwood Booster Club or the Westwood Alumni Association in his memory.
