Obituary
Marquette – Jeannette M. Penhale, age 82, currently of 304 Lost Creek Dr., Marquette, and formerly of the Tourville Apts., where she had resided for the past 11 years, passed away on Monday January 5, 2015 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she was a resident since Dec. 30th, 2014.
Jeannette was born August 22, 1932 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late J. Arthur and Signe (Oja) Taipala. She grew up in Ishpeming was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1950. Jeannette was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Pike Lake in Gwinn. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing and baking. She and her late husband Howard had wintered in Gulf Shores, AL during their retirement years together.
Jeannette was a longtime member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming and a current member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marquette, where she had been a member of the Redeemer Choir. She was a member of the Christian Women's Club and the Vasa Lodge. Jeannette loved music and was a longtime supporter of the Negaunee Male Chorus.
Survivors include 3 children – Suzan (Terry) Wasland of Little Falls, MN, Peggy (Gerald) Aalto of Gwinn and Gary (Stephanie) Penhale of Negaunee; a brother Robert (Geraldine) Taipala of Lower Michigan; sisters-in-law – Dona Taipala, Dorothy Jarvi and Janet Penhale; 9 grandchildren – Kaarin (Chris) Lund, Tim (Michelle) Wasland, Matt Wasland, Abby Aalto, Hunter Bengry, Lily Bengry Tony Kangas, Dan Perttanen and William Penhale; along with 4 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Penhale in 2003, her parents, a brother Douglas Taipala and an infant sister Shirley Taipala.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 3pm until 5pm on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marquette. A memorial service will follow at 5:00pm at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Chad Ott to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
