Obituary

Ishpeming – Jeanne L. Maata, age 77, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Saturday September 17, 2011 at 10:23pm at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had resided since July of 2005.


Jeanne was born September 4, 1934 in Marquette the daughter of the late Theodore and Ita (Zryd) Pepin. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1952. Jeanne worked for AMCAB as an aide in the Head Start program in Ishpeming for nearly 30 years. She truly loved her work, caring for the children as if they where her own. Jeanne was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.


Jeanne was a devoted Mother, caring especially for her daughter Patrice who had special needs. She loved time spent with her grandchildren along with playing BINGO or Uno, cooking and shopping.


Survivors include her 4 children – Mark (Laurie) Easterwood of Marquette, Tim (Kelly) Easterwood of Romeo, Laurel (Ray) Perrault of Ishpeming and Brian "Butch" Easterwood of Ishpeming, a sister Suzanne (Mike) Wilson of Negaunee, a sister-in-law Connie Pepin of Ishpeming, 11 grandchildren – Jesslyn Easterwood and her fiancé Christian, Jonelle Easterwood and her husband K.T., Olivia, Audrey, Ava, Joe and Ella Easterwood, Katie, Dan (Katy), Emily and Michael Perrault, and a expected great grandchild in January. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousins Coleen Waters and Rebecca Korpi. She was preceded in death by her daughter Patrice Easterwood on Oct 13, 2002, a brother Ted Pepin, and a "Special Aunt" Glor Carter.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:30 – 6:00pm on Tuesday September 20, 2011 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. A memorial service will follow at 6:00pm on Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kenneth Lahners to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews – Carl Underwood, David Wilson and Kyle Wilson, along with Owen Carter and Bill Waters.
