Ishpeming – Jeanne E. Healey, age 87, of 128 High Excelsior St., Ishpeming, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 at her home in Ishpeming. She was in the loving care of her family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice at the time of her death.
Jeanne was born November 19, 1926 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Frank and Alma (Rantala) Lehtonen. She moved to Negaunee at age 4 with her family and was active with the Campfire Girls in her youth. The Campfire Girls would have a yearly reunion on Christmas Eve which she attended well into her seventies. Jeanne was a graduate of the Negaunee High School, Class of 1944. She moved back to Chicago from 1944 – 1946 where she worked for the U.S. Naval Dept. Jeanne moved back to this area and married Joseph Healey on February 15, 1947. Locally she had worked for the Sears and Roebuck Co., and as a office secretary for local Insurance Agencies including James E. Flaa, Rudy Tupala and Ralph Doto.
Jeanne was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where she was active with the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Rachel Circle. Jeanne was a member of the Ishpeming VFW auxiliary, and often volunteered at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. She was a former member of the Wawonowin Country Club where she enjoyed golfing and was an avid bowler in her younger years. Jeanne loved knitting, making sweaters and mittens for her boys, and grandkids yearly. Jeanne cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren following their activities and events for as long as she could attend. She and Joe enjoyed time spent at camp, along with traveling and had wintered in Texas and Florida during their retirement years.
Survivors include her husband for the past 67 years Joseph Healey of Ishpeming; 3 sons – David (Marge) Healey of Negaunee, Paul (Jackie) Healey of Ishpeming and Jeff Healey of Menasha, WI; a sister Helen (Clyde) Wills of Oshkosh, WI; 9 grandchildren – Darrell (Jeanne) Healey, Brian (Kelly) Healey, Jamie (Ed) Pichette, Ryan Healey, Michael Kulju, Nicole Kulju, Todd Healey, Scott (Kim) Healey and Amy (Dan) Geffers; along with 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Ernie and Robert Lehtonen.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 – 11am on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am on Friday at the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Pallbearers will be Jeanne's grandchildren. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.
