Ishpeming, MI – Jean A. Johns, age 90, longtime Ishpeming resident, entered eternal life peacefully on Friday May 20, 2022, while in the loving care of her family, the Teal Lake Senior Living Community in Negaunee, and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.
Jean was born June 9, 1931, in Ishpeming to Lloyd and Mildred (Carlson) Stone. She graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1949 and from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL in 1952. Jean worked as a RN starting her career at FA Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming. Jean moved with her family and practiced nursing at hospitals in Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago areas before returning to Ishpeming and working at the Williams Clinic until her retirement.
Jean was a very active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where she sang in the church choir since childhood. Jean belonged to the Ishpeming Friends of the Library, was active with the Ishpeming Alumni Association and was her class representative. She played in several cribbage leagues and loved attending yearly reunions with her Augustana Nursing Alumni. Jean will best be remembered for her always positive and grateful attitude. Her kindness, sense of humor, and warm, loving smile made her a joy to be with.
Jean is survived by two daughters; Karen (Peter Jorgensen) Johns of San Marcos, CA, Kathy (Mike) Harrington of Ishpemnig, daughter-in-law Janine Johns of Negaunee, four grandchildren: Joelle Johns of Berlin, Germany, Katie Johns of Minneapolis, MN, Mindy Harrington of Appleton, WI and Kara (Nate) Clisch of Ishpeming, two great grandchildren; Everett and Carter Clisch, two sisters-in-law; Edith Peddle of Jupiter, FL, and Helen (Edward) Smith of Waupaca, WI, very special friend Charlie "Snook" Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, husband Edward "Ned" Johns, son Alan Johns, sister Marilyn Dorsey, brother-in-law William Peddle, and nephew Edward Peddle.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday July 22, 2022, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, the family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of service. The Upper Peninsula Nurses Honor Guard will perform their service prior to the memorial service.
