Ishpeming – Jean S. Farley, age 89 of 200 Saginaw St. in Ishpeming passed away on Wednesday July 29, 2009 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while under the loving care of her family, the staff of Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility and Lake Superior Hospice.


Jean was born June 17, 1920 in Calumet the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Weir) Shannon. Jean was a homemaker and will be remembered for her fine cooking and baking. Jean lived in Calumet until she married Kenneth F. Farley on March 14, 1940. They had resided in Hancock for a few years prior to moving to Hubbell, MI in the mid-1940's where she resided for most of the life.

Jean and Ken enjoyed entertaining their grandchildren during the many summers spent at camp on Little Traverse Bay on Lake Superior. Jean's interests included dancing, bowling, & sewing. In 2007 Jean moved to the Woodland Assisted Living and in Sept. 2008 to the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility.


Survivors include her son Harry (Diane) Farley of Ishpeming, 3 grandchildren – Debbie (Dan) Chapman, Ken (Maryann) Farley and Tom (Joelene) Farley all of Ishpeming, a sister Clarice DesJardins of Largo, FL, a sister-in-law Louise Farley of Clarkston, MI, 9 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ken Farley (1996), 2 sisters and 2 brothers.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday August 1, 2009 at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with the Rev. Fr. Wayne Marcotte to officiate. Interment will take place at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.


The family will greet friends and relatives at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home
from 4 until 6pm on Friday and again at the Peace Funeral Home from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday.
