Obituary

Beartown/Ishpeming- "It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Janice Shalifoe, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Janice departed this life on June 12,2025 surrounded by the love of her family.

Janice was preceded in death by countless family and friends whom she cherished. Including her parents- Richard Shalifoe and Sarah Whetung, siblings- Frederick (Peggy) Shelifoe, Daniel (JoAnn) Shelafoe, Marilyn (Charles) Loonsfoot, Virginia Jermac, children- Emily Jean Halverson, Helen Marie Halverson, Peter "Petie" Paul Halverson Jr. and Jean Jokinen, grandson-in-law- Theodore "Bear" John, great grandson- Amari Anthony Gibson. She is survived by her children-Janice Halverson, Paul Halverson, and Colin Van, her grandchildren- Joshua Eagle, Anthony Eagle, Nicole Eagle, Shawnee John, Chalsea Smith, Ethan Halverson, Sage Halverson, Sheila Halverson, Sheena Davis, Alyssa Van, Joan Van, Autumn Van and Jaxon Van, siblings- Richard (Gloria) Shalifoe, Theodore Shalifoe, Matthew (Nancy) Shalifoe, Cecelia "Babe" (Dale) Miller, Donald Shalifoe, along with numerous great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice's life was a vibrant dance of faith, culture, and unwavering strength. She found joy and connection in her powwows and cherished her heritage deeply. Her love for the Lord was a guiding light, illuminating her path with faith. As a disciplined, spiritual, and stoic woman, she faced life's trials with remarkable resilience. A strong, independent, and hardworking mother, she overcame obstacles that would have broken many, always pushing through with the power of family love. Janice's spirit serves as an inspiration to all who knew her, a testament to the enduring strength of faith, family, and cultural pride.

A celebration of Janice's life will be held on Monday June 16, 2025 at Bjork Funeral Home 400 N. 3rd St. Ishpeming, MI 49849 starting at 9:00am. A wake will be held on Sunday June 15, 2025 starting at 6:00pm until 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Janice's goFundme at https://gofund.me/59ca8b15 in Janice's memory.
