Ishpeming- Mary "Janet" LaFond, age 91, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of her family and nursing home staff.

Janet, who was born in Negaunee on May 9, 1931, was the daughter of the late Louis "Ernest" and Mary (White) LaJoie. She grew up in Negaunee and graduated from St. Paul's Catholic High School in 1948. The following year, Janet married Douglas J. LaFond.

Janet and Doug spent many years camping at Van Riper State Park during the summer months where she shared many craft ideas with her camping friends. She was always collecting craft supplies, working with patterns, and making creative gifts for people. Janet also enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings at her home with her family.

Janet is survived by one son- Doug (Patti) LaFond, son-in-law- Gordon Wittler, brother- Robert (Alice) LaJoie, two brother-in-laws- Kayedon "Bud" LeChevalier, Dave Sowden, eight grandchildren- Karen Gilreath, Rachael White, Erin (Ed) Canning, Janel Brondyke, Eric (Bree) Trudgeon, Sara (Zac) Cantu, Amy (Chris) Anderson, Jenny (Darren) Holmgren, one step-grandchild, Nathan Trudgeon, 11 great grandchildren with another one the way, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Douglas J. LaFond, three children- Mary Wittler, Jean (Dennis) Trudgeon, Dennis LaFond, brother- Ernest LaJoie, sister- Patricia Sowden, infant brother- Walter, and infant sister- Mary Lou.

Janet's family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am until 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon with Fr. Christian Flagstadt officiating. Following the service burial will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in memory of Janet.
